Recreation Director
Cole Harbour Place is a 200,000 square foot sport and recreation facility located in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia. We are here to serve and accommodate members of our local and surrounding communities to achieve their personal health and wellness goals. The facility includes pools, rinks, weight room and training centre, dance and fitness studios, spin studio, squash courts, various meeting rooms as well as multiple community minded tenants.
Position Summary:
The Recreation Director is responsible and accountable for the ongoing planning, development, facilitation, and evaluation of sport, recreation, healthy living, and leisure programs. They will promote programs, seek out activity volunteers and leaders, and provide assistance to community-initiated programs as needed, including through advertising, promotional efforts, and digital engagement. They will inventory existing programs, complete needs assessments to determine required programs, and facilitate the creation and implementation of the most appropriate offerings. They will be responsible for seeking out and applying for grant funding opportunities.
Additionally, the Recreation Director will oversee social media promotions and online engagement strategies to increase awareness and participation in programs, memberships, and special events. They will manage digital advertising opportunities, ensuring a strong online presence for Cole Harbour Place.
The Recreation Director is a member of the Cole Harbour Place team and will work with staff to help achieve the overall goals of Cole Harbour Place while delivering high-quality programming for the community.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week). Regular working hours are Monday to Friday (daytime), with occasional evening or weekend work as required.
Key Responsiblities:
- Develop, coordinate, promote, and evaluate recreational programs for all ages and abilities.
- Ensure a variety of safe, accessible, and appropriate recreational activities.
- Respond to community needs and public inquiries/complaints related to recreation programming.
- Promote and publicize all recreation/leisure programs and services using traditional media, digital platforms, and direct customer/community engagement.
- Develop and execute social media strategies to increase awareness, engagement, and participation in programs and memberships.
- Seek out and manage advertising opportunities for Cole Harbour Place programs and memberships, including both in-house and external promotions.
- Create and schedule content for social media, newsletters, and other digital marketing channels.
- Develop, recommend, and implement recreation programming policies and procedures.
- Seek out, recommend, and administer funding programs to maximize recreation opportunities.
- Maintain an inventory of recreation resources.
- Assist with the day-to-day operations of the facility's booking system, as required.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience in staff/volunteer supervision
- Working knowledge of current recreation trends
- Strong ability in recreation program design, development, implementation and evaluation
- Experience in grant writing and awareness of resources that exist to assist with recreation programming cost
- Experience with and understanding of effective advertising and promotional techniques
- Must possess or be willing to obtain: CPR/First Aid
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Demonstrate excellent verbal, written and oral skills
- Strong coordination and leadership skills
- Detail oriented with an ability to multi-task
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Willingness to do what it takes to get the job done.
Compensation:
Salary range $42,000-$60,000 annually
Salary will communsurate with experience.

Security - Part-Time
This job position reports directly to the Manager, Customer Operations
Position Summary:
Cole Harbour Place is currently Hiring for part-time - Weekend & Weekday Evenings
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for implementing basic security procedures
- Responsible for nightly building lock up
- Work in co-operation with the local RCMP detachment with regards to patrols and enforcement of building rules
- Responsible for First Aid incident response in all non-aquatic areas
- Responsible for daily interior and exterior building patrols
- Responsible for maintaining daily logbook entries and incident reports
- Responsible for patron control and assisting other departments in operational taskings, customer service and crowd management
- Other duties or responsibilities may be assigned and added at managements discretion;
Qualifications:
- Must be reliable and punctual
- Excellent customer service skills
- Must provide clear Criminal Record certificate; Vulnerable Sector checks
- First Aid Training certificate (valid) with CPR and AED or willing to obtain
- A Private Guard License is considered an asset
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Detail oriented with an ability to multi-task
- Willingness to do what it takes to get the job done

Compensation:
Hourly wage is determined by NSUPE Local 22 Collective agreement.
